Hope Breaks piqued my interest from the very beginning. When you have a book starts out like this:
“I’m not done yet,” he admonished, his voice deep with want.
“Well, stop with the tickling then, and get to it,” I said pressing my free foot into his hard hairless chest. Good god, his flesh was soft and warm…and he smelled delicious.
He raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Yes, ma’am.”
I’m a military wife so her hear the phrase “Yes, ma’am.” multiple times a day and I don’t even think twice about it. However, when those two simple words come from the likes of Brad Pitt, while painting and massaging feet, it sure makes one perk up and pay attention. Even if it happens to only be in a daydream. *sigh*
Hope is working as a photographer and works on making book covers for a publisher. She isn’t your typical heroine. She is a little frumpy, drives an old beat up car and is just trying to survive. Her latest book cover is rejected and she is in a race against time to come up with a new cover and keep her job.
Jake is sweet, smart and funny. He is, what I think of as, a typical male for his age. I’m talking about a real world typical and not book heroes typical. He isn’t your millionaire/billionaire, bad boy, rock star, etc. He is just average and works at the Wal-Mart Tire & Lube Express.
So, why was Hope Breaks so great if it was so typical and normal everyday? Because it was just that, something I can relate to personally. I’m so used to books that try and make everything either drama filled or so outrageous that its not even close to something I know about from experience. This was such a nice change of pace. And, of course, reading about characters going through things that you have, can be rather entertaining.
If you are looking for a quick book that is about real people with everyday problems such as stressful, headache filled trip to Wal-Mart, than this is the perfect book. But, be prepared, Hope Breaks ends on a little cliffhanger.
This novella is part of 3 book series:
- Hope Breaks ~ Out now!
- Hope Entangles ~ Coming Soon
- Hope Rises ~ Coming Soon
BLURB ~ Hope Jones has two problems: one is new, the other is depressingly old.
The new problem: the bestselling author the publisher she shoots romance novel covers for hates her newest batch of covers. She has until the end of the week to come up with a breathtaking shot or she’ll be replaced. And there’s a sudden model shortage; they’re out of season.
The old, depressing problem: she hasn’t had a date, sex or a relationship in over two years.
She also has one hell of a headache.
Hope finds the cures for her two problems during a search through Wal-Mart for a painkiller to kill her headache.
Turns out the aisles of the retail giant are rampant with hot young model worthy specimens. And when her trusty Ford Taurus breaks down in the parking lot, a hunky mechanic in the Tire and Lube Express department fixes more than just her car.
Seemingly her troubles are good as gone…but then her new, fabulous cover is rejected, and in a desperate moment she has to choose between keeping her job and keeping the man she’s just starting to fall in love with.
